Sports Massage Doreen
Sports Massage Doreen includes a range of massage techniques prior to, and after, sporting events.
Sport massage involves hands on and relaxing techniques to stretch muscle fibres. This helps to remove tensions and improve blood flow, making the body more prepared for physical activity, or better able to recover from such activity. Our sports massage does not involve other myotherapy treatments such as dry needling or trigger point manipulation.
Pre-event sports massage helps to prepare the body for intense physical exercise by loosening muscles and promoting greater flexibility. Massage before events are lighter, to avoid causing any damage to the muscle tissue.
Post-event sports massage can be used to manage the pain and inflammation that occurs following high intensity exercise. It can help reduce pain associated with delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS) by relaxing muscle tension and increasing blood circulation.
Sports massage earns its name from targeting injuries that are specific to sports, whereas deep tissue massage is more specifically focused on chronic muscle tension and stress reduction.
Despite some popular notions, our sports massage is not based on the idea that more pain is more gain. We ensure that the pressure used during massage is appropriate to you. By not applying excessive pressure, we avoid inducing greater tension in the muscle, which would only create additional pain following the session.
Our sports massage can be a general full-body massage, or a more targeted approach for the lower or upper body, depending on the kind of activities you do, and what your needs are.
Since every sport or athletic activity uses muscle groups of the body in a different way, your sports massage therapist at Doreen Myotherapy may use one or more movements/strokes/techniques on the muscles relevant to that particular sport or athletic activity.
